Description

My Escape has the same underbody cover as the Ford Maverick, but it appears someone had already drilled and cut some holes in it. I needed a much larger oil drain plug cover to work with my modified underbody cover. I drew mine up from scratch using most of the great ideas from Oil_Drain_Plug_Cover_Oriented.stl, and named it escape_oil_drain_cover_wide.stl. I decided to neck down the front of my cover slightly to avoid a tricky bump.

I ran into major interference issues with the Cover_Bolt_Parts.stl file when printed in PETG. When creating escape_oil_drain_latch_parts.stl, I used the latch outline, but made modifications including: changed the anti-rotation octagon to a hexagon, changed the 1/4-turn to 60° with bayonet-style stop, and converted the internal screwdriver slots to overall slot outlines so they can be assembled without any tools.

I was able to use the Oil_Filter_Cover_Oriented.stl cover as originally designed by m7550. It's an excellent design that fits well and printed without supports. I still had to ream out the hole with a drill, since my PETG prints always produces oblong holes, especially on larger holes.

Because my PETG prints are never dimensionally accurate, I marked the outlines on the underbody cover using a sharpie pen. Then I cut the underbody cover holes using a pair of angled tin snips. This was the best way to ensure correct fit and clearances and was less stressful than "measure twice, cut once".

Update: I uploaded v2 drain cover because the first 3 prints kept lifting off the build plate. I moved the inside text and adjusted the graphics to reduce this, but still ended up needing to use supports.

Commercial use or resale is prohibited because I used Autodesk Fusion for personal use to create this remake. The software license is strictly limited for personal, non-commercial projects only.

Print price estimates

Planning prices for one print, not a final quote. Defaults use a size allowance inferred from the part name, not a measured or sliced model. Filament suitability must be confirmed.

FilamentUSD / printApplication notes
PLA$17.50Indoor prototypes; not a default material for hot vehicle interiors.
PETG$18.00General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review.
ASA$18.50Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry.
ABS$18.50Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions.
TPU$20.00Flexible designs only; not a substitute for rigid materials.
Nylon$20.00Moisture, tolerances and application require review.
PA-CF$21.00Filled nylon; abrasive filament and fit need review.

Cost examples only. This design is not offered for sale; permission or specialist application review is required.

Pricing assumptions and exclusions

USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.

Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.

Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
