Description

A 1965 Mustang and many other classic cars have a single 4x10 speaker (or is it called 3x9?) for the mono AM radio. As an upgrade, after-market products are offered where a pair of 3.5" speakers fit in the hole for that 4x10 speaker. Not knowing the quality of the speakers themselves, I designed a mount for two 3.5" speakers so I could pick the speakers. I used two Pyle speakers but I'm sure others would fit or could be adapted.

My 3D printer is not able to print something that is 10" long so I split the design into two identical halves. The two halves interlock and two #8 sheet metal screws hold the parts secure.

As shown in the pictures, the part interfered with the speaker grill so the design was modified accordingly. The stl file looks slightly different from the pictures due to this mod. If I reprint the parts, I will upload a new set of pictures but I will only do that if I print with another material. I just cut some of the material away with a saw to create my clearance, after taking the pictures. I had other things to do than to reprint!

UPDATE (07/17/25)
I modified the design to make it a single piece which it turns out I could print by turning it to 45 degrees on the build plate. I also turned the speakers so that there are only 3 speaker mounting holes with a single screw holding the speaker tabs that are closest together. There were also some required changes as I assembled my dash for clearance of the speaker grill. I do not have any updated pictures of the printed part but there is a png of the design. I uploaded the 3mf file this time so I hope that works. I don't think that option was available when I first uploaded the design.

UPDATE (07/18/25)
I deleted the 3mf file I uploaded yesterday because it was brought to my attention that someone is selling these parts on Etsy without attribution. Sorry if you need this updated design but I did not want the updated file to be available to them since the original stl file would not permit the grill to be installed properly. So anyone purchasing this on Etsy will not get a functional part! Again, sorry for any inconvenience.

Print price estimates

Planning prices for one print, not a final quote. Defaults use a size allowance inferred from the part name, not a measured or sliced model. Filament suitability must be confirmed.

FilamentUSD / printApplication notes

PETG$29.00General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review.
ASA$32.50Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry.
ABS$31.50Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions.

Pricing assumptions and exclusions

USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.

Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.

Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
