Description
The latch to hold the left-hand door closed also acts as a stopper for the right-hand sliding door, but is easily broken (most likely when the right-hand door is used to push the left-hand door closed).
This fix does not replace the latch itself, but provides a larger stopper for the right-hand door, preventing pressure being put on the original latch.
Based on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5344119 with some modifications:
- Spun around to print lengthways and with a flat base.
- Larger cutout for the catch.
- Slimmed down to provide a little more clearance for drawers in the right-hand cupboard and clearance for brushes on the edge of the right-hand door (would try going thinner if was to do this again).
### Printing
Print with supports and no infill. Roughly 25 min print time at 0.2mm layer thickness.
### Installation
- Remove the door handle which is attached with 3 T10 hex screws.
- Attach the part to the handle with masking tape and test fit in the vehicle. Make sure any drawers in the right-hand unit open.
- Use hot melt glue to reattach the latch, if broken off.
- Use hot-melt glue to affix the printed part to the handle.
### Part numbers
If you want to replace the entire door handle, the VW part number is 704359.
The catch in the wall of the cabinet also breaks easily. VW part number 702207. Note that you need to remove the fridge to replace this, so possibly not worth the effort and the door tends to stay closed based on friction alone.

Print price estimates
Planning prices for one print, not a final quote. Defaults use a size allowance inferred from the part name, not a measured or sliced model. Filament suitability must be confirmed.
| Filament | USD / print | Application notes |
|---|---|---|
| PLA | $21.50 | Indoor prototypes; not a default material for hot vehicle interiors. |
| PETG | $21.50 | General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review. |
| ASA | $23.50 | Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry. |
| ABS | $22.50 | Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions. |
| TPU | $26.00 | Flexible designs only; not a substitute for rigid materials. |
| Nylon | $26.00 | Moisture, tolerances and application require review. |
| PA-CF | $28.00 | Filled nylon; abrasive filament and fit need review. |
Pricing assumptions and exclusions
USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.
Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.
Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
