Description

Hi, I wanted a cheap and easy way to install a diferent intake on the Miata to increase intake noise (no performance gain expected of course, just fun). Also I wanted it easy to go back to facotry airbox. So I designed this to retain the factory MAF sensor. Please note that I don't know sh*t about f*ck, I'm just a dude with too much time to spare. I don't recommend installing this to your car, my goal is more to inspire someone who knows what he/she's doing to make a better version. I "learned" fusion 360 just for that.

It's designed to be printed wide side flat on the bed with a brim and no support, 100% infill. I used PETG and it holds for now but ABS would probably be better.

I noticed an improve in low end torque and it made the car slightly smoother which was a surprise for sure, but a welcome one.I don't know if that's due to better air flow (I higly doubt that) or because I messed up the measurements and now the MAF sensor is misplaced so the ECU is tricked in a bad way (which is a lot more likely).

The outside diameter for the filter is 80mm because I had a 80mm filter laying arround. I then crafted a support in my cave with a bunch of scraps. If it looks stupid but it works it ain't stupid right ?

With the top down, the engine sounds beter with a lower tone for the intake sound, not a big difference but good enough for what it costs.

Print price estimates

Planning prices for one print, not a final quote. Defaults use a size allowance inferred from the part name, not a measured or sliced model. Filament suitability must be confirmed.

FilamentUSD / printApplication notes
PLA$28.50Indoor prototypes; not a default material for hot vehicle interiors.
PETG$29.00General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review.
ASA$32.50Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry.
ABS$31.50Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions.
TPU$37.50Flexible designs only; not a substitute for rigid materials.
Nylon$37.50Moisture, tolerances and application require review.
PA-CF$42.50Filled nylon; abrasive filament and fit need review.

Cost examples only. This design is not offered for sale; permission or specialist application review is required.

Pricing assumptions and exclusions

USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.

Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.

Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
