Description

I had to build my own tool because I didn't find anyone in my local supermarkets.
And I didn't want to buy any before knowing if my Glow plug starter was out of order.
So I tried to print this Glow plug starter Tool which is to use on an 8mm plug; my car is an Opel Corsa D.
I used it and I was amazed because it worked on all 4 of my Glow plugs. And more than that, my 3D printed tool was not damaged at all, and in PLA.
I used an allen key (an 8mm one) to use it; but you can also use a 14mm wrench on the outside of the 3D printed tool.
If your plug does not have the same size you can scale your design in your slicer.
Thanks for giving your feedback if you use it. And print it with 100% infill.
THX

I created this tool because I could not find any tool in the auto supermarkets near my home, and I did not want to buy one online before knowing if my glow plugs were faulty.
This tool allows you to reach the lowest part of the plug while being hollow all the way through. A traditional socket wrench does not work.
You can use an 8mm allen key inside the tool or even a 14mm ring or box wrench.
I was surprised but the tool was not even damaged after use even though I printed it in PLA. And it allowed me to see that two of my glow plugs were faulty!!
My car is an Opel Corsa D diesel 70hp; if your plugs are not the same size you can change the size on the X axis in your slicer.
Please share your feedback if you use it. Be sure to print at 100% infill.

Print price estimates

Planning prices for one print, not a final quote. Defaults use a size allowance inferred from the part name, not a measured or sliced model. Filament suitability must be confirmed.

FilamentUSD / printApplication notes
PLA$17.50Indoor prototypes; not a default material for hot vehicle interiors.
PETG$18.00General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review.
ASA$18.50Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry.
ABS$18.50Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions.

Pricing assumptions and exclusions

USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.

Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.

Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
