Description

The 2004 Cadillac CTS-V Sail Panel (the interior cover for the C pillar) has an internal plastic bracket screwed to a retainer in the C pillar but the bracket deteriorates with age. The access hole for the screw has a small plastic clip on cover that says "Air Bag". When the internal bracket cracks, the sail panel separates from the body and becomes loose.

If enough of the internal bracket remains, this may be repaired with a washer attached to the remaining bracket and replacement #8 x 1/2 inch screw. The retainer this screws into is not actually threaded.

If not enough of the internal bracket remains, this thing can be used to replace both the internal bracket and the clip on cover that says "Air Bag".

Requirements:
Metal screws in size #8 x 1/2 inch with a 7mm hex washer slotted head
7mm hex bit driver
Barbecue skewers

After removing the clip on covers, I snapped off the remaining cracked plastic on the end of the internal bracket, then inserted the printed bracket through the access hole and used a barbecue skewer to align it with the retainer while pressing the sail panel against the C pillar. Then I removed the skewer and used a printed bit driver extension with 7mm hex bit driver to insert and tighten the screw lightly.

Print price estimates

Planning prices for one print, not a final quote. Defaults use a size allowance inferred from the part name, not a measured or sliced model. Filament suitability must be confirmed.

FilamentUSD / printApplication notes
PLA$57.50Indoor prototypes; not a default material for hot vehicle interiors.
PETG$59.00General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review.
ASA$69.50Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry.
ABS$66.00Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions.
TPU$85.00Flexible designs only; not a substitute for rigid materials.
Nylon$85.00Moisture, tolerances and application require review.
PA-CF$99.00Filled nylon; abrasive filament and fit need review.
Pricing assumptions and exclusions

USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.

Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.

Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
