Description

I was overhauling the throttle body in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0 liter. The original gasket for the IAC [Idle Air Control] valve disintegrated when I cleaned it. I couldn't find a replacement anywhere, not locally nor online. So, I made one.

I used TPU as it is flexible and supposedly resistant to gasoline. It will withstand engine temperatures unless in excess of 200℃. The dimensions are 43.56mm x 43.56 mm x 1.0mm. Although it looks symmetrical, the receiving edges are not but it will fit almost perfectly if you try the two different possibilities for best fit. I coated both sides with engine grease to ensure an airtight seal.

I printed very fine with no supports at 205℃/60℃. Even with the finest setting it took around just 30 minutes to print on an Anycubic Mega-S.

I'm making this available to others that might need it. Please attribute it to me if you plan on sharing it. I do *not* approve any sales from this gasket, so don't do it. My Jeep sure runs and idles nicely now.

Of course, using this is the sole responsibility of the user and I won't be responsible for any damage to yourself or your Jeep. If you have the slightest doubt, don't use it. Please use the normal safety procedures when working on any vehicle and, for that matter, using a 3D printer.

PETG$29.00General-purpose candidate; heat and creep need review.
ASA$32.50Candidate for UV exposure; verify temperature and geometry.
ABS$31.50Enclosed printing; review application and dimensions.
TPU$37.50Flexible designs only; not a substitute for rigid materials.
Nylon$37.50Moisture, tolerances and application require review.

Pricing assumptions and exclusions

USD: ($6 setup + $3 finishing + filament weight × assumed spool cost × 1.25 waste allowance + print hours × $2.50 × material time factor) ÷ 0.65. Rounded up to the next $0.50.

Assumed spool costs per kg: PLA $25, PETG $30, ASA $40, ABS $30, TPU $45, Nylon $65, PA-CF $95. Time factors: PLA/PETG 1.0, ASA/ABS 1.2, TPU 1.6, Nylon 1.4, PA-CF 1.5. These are proposed shop rates, not measured production costs.

Design work, test fitting, hardware, shipping and tax are additional where needed. Multi-file sets may need several prints. Use actual sliced weight and time when available. Final pricing is confirmed in writing.
